She had the chance to take up the lease of a brand new 6,000m2 purpose built commercial unit in the middle of a new housing development in Rainham and the space would have allowed her to open another branch of her childcare business. But before our client could take a decision on whether to move into the unit, she wanted to understand cost as well as how the space could be used, how many children it could hold, what kind of facilities could be accommodated for staff, back of house amenities, office/staff rooms and a proposed after-school club.

We started the project by researching the needs of the children and the impact a space can have upon their sense of security, curiosity, and desire to learn from others through play. We devised a loose scheme with initial ideas for discussion with the client, and to enable a Quantity Surveyor to put together a cost plan.

Unfortunately, the clients’ budget could not stretch to cover the fit-out, and she took the decision to walk away from the project. But because of the ideas and enthusiasm we brought to the project, she approached us with a view to design and deliver the refurbishment and extension of her newly bought home. We’re very much looking forward to that.
